Active Copper Cables

An active-copper overview for requirements that may call for AEC or ACC, organized around endpoints, reach, power, and compatibility.

SFP+ copper cable assembly with two metal connector ends and black cable
Representative SFP+ copper assembly. Appearance alone does not identify active circuitry, cable length or host compatibility; confirm the exact part specification.

Choose the active-copper path

Active copper is an umbrella term used differently across product lines. Begin with both endpoint devices, interface, data rate, length, power constraints, and the exact terminology used by the manufacturer or platform.

AEC

Use the AEC Family when the requirement is described as an active electrical cable and signal conditioning is part of the assembly.

Review AEC requirements

ACC

Use the ACC Family when the reference specifically identifies an active copper cable or assembly. Do not assume that AEC and ACC are interchangeable labels.

Review ACC requirements

Information needed for quotation

Share both endpoints, port form factors, data rate, length, quantity, coding or compatibility requirements, and any exact manufacturer reference.

Technical parameters and selection boundaries

Published configurations differ by manufacturer and exact part number. These are selection dimensions, not one combined specification.

Parameter Documented example or choice Verify for this request
Example identity EDGE describes its 10G-ADAC-SFP-7-CI as a Cisco SFP-H10GB-ACU7M-compatible active copper cable. This identifies a third-party supplier product, not an original Cisco cable or a Cisco authorization. Confirm both endpoint models and firmware.
Connection and length Point-to-point SFP+ to SFP+; the reviewed compatible model lists 7 m maximum length. Do not infer a multi-port breakout, AOC construction or universal seven-meter reach for every active cable.
Signaling rate The supplier lists 1.0625–10.52 Gbps signaling support, including 10G Ethernet at 10.31 Gbps. Line signaling rates are not application payload throughput. Protocol and host support must be checked for the actual endpoints.
Conductor construction The page lists 30 AWG for 1–7 m assemblies and 28 AWG for its 10 m construction. The 7 m example is within the 30 AWG band. The longer construction is a different order and does not extend this MPN to 10 m.
Supply and environment The product table lists a +3.3 V single supply and a 0–70 °C standard temperature range. No case-versus-ambient qualification is given in the inspected temperature row. Confirm the actual thermal specification and host power allowance.

Standard configurations and project options

Configuration area Documented option Project decision
Length and wire gauge Select a complete orderable assembly with the required routed length and its documented conductor gauge. Request cable diameter, bend radius, latch clearance and drawing. These dimensions are not inferred from the product photograph.
Endpoint coding and protocol The reviewed part is marketed for a named Cisco-compatible application and lists specific Ethernet signaling modes. Obtain the endpoint/firmware qualification and exact supplier order code. A compatibility claim on a product page is not evidence of our own completed link test.

Representative models and configurations

Examples illustrate real product variation. A listed manufacturer or model is not a statement of our stock, authorization, or confirmed availability.

Manufacturer / series Published configuration Important scope
EDGE 10G-ADAC-SFP-7-CI Third-party SFP-H10GB-ACU7M-compatible ADAC; SFP+ to SFP+; 7 m; 30 AWG for the stated length band. The headline incorrectly includes MMF while the detailed table says twinax copper. This page uses the copper construction described in the body/table and retains the wording conflict for follow-up.

Applications and procurement context

  • For a defined short-distance 10G connection, identify both endpoint ports and the qualified active-copper part. Keep traditional SFP+ ADAC, newer AEC/ACC configurations and active optical cables distinct; specify coding, length, wire gauge and the applicable host support evidence.

Compatibility, current supply, lead time, origin, and acceptance documents must be confirmed for the actual order.
